NAME: Steven Quartz Universe
CANON: Steven Universe
AGE: Steven has no official age, but he seems to be somewhere in the 10-12 range.
APPEARANCE: He is very tiny. Also of note is that he has a gem under his shirt, in place of his belly button.
CANON POINT: After "Sadie's Song".
BACKGROUND: Steven Universe wiki
PERSONALITY:
Steven Universe is a very goofy and happy-go-lucky young boy. He is optimistic to an extreme, and he is set on befriending virtually everyone whom he meets. Steven only seeks peace, and thus is pacifistic in many of his ways. He'll still fight against enemies, especially the gem monsters whom he faces with the Crystal Gems, but he pities them and will be reluctant to use excessive force. Even against one of the bad Homeworld Gems, Peridot, Steven has tried to befriend her during several encounters and once tried to wish her a good weekend after she escaped from them. He also once tried to tame an infant version of a monster as a pet, and even though it failed, they all held hope that Steven would be able to do so someday. This seems to reflect a trait of his mother's, in that she "saw the beauty in everything, no matter how gross".
He has a very silly sense of humor in general, including excessive usage of puns. Although he has a very vivid imagination, he can be very naive and isn't very intellectual at all, but he seems to have been making some progress on those fronts over time. Knowing people like Pearl and Connie have definitely helped him to learn more, as Pearl has often imparted lessons to Steven while Connie has exposed him to the world of young adult literature. He is usually a straightforwardly honest person, but he is still very capable of lying, especially when he is insecure about something. In one instance, he was insecure about the different ways in which Connie and he had read a book, so he lied to pretend that he disliked the ending like Connie did. He was afraid of being considered to being a bad person for liking the book's ending and considering it to be romantic, but Connie was not disappointed when the truth came out. Connie ended up not being disappointed in him, and she instead affectionately said that it was like him to enjoy "schmaltz".
Steven is still capable of being rude and he sometimes has been very childish when he has not gotten his way. However, he has matured past some of that over time, as reflected in episodes such as "The Test" where he learned to put the Crystal Gems' needs before his for a change, in order to help to assure them that they were doing the right thing for him. Most of the time when Steven acts somewhat mean, it is in a purely joking manner and towards inanimate objects, such as in his criticisms of the toy known as Dave Guy, who comes with taxes an accessory. "Is that all you have to offer?!" Steven demands of the boring toy. In other cases, he can become truly angry after being pushed. For example, in his friendship with Lars, he has often overlooked Lars's rudeness in favor of believing them to be BFFs, but once Lars got mad at Steven and even went as far as to bring Steven's mom into it, Steven had an outburst and told him off for being a jerk.
Despite how happy Steven often acts, he still does deal with a number of insecurities and other worries that originate from him being half-human and half-Gem. He has been desperate to prove himself as one of the Crystal Gems despite only being a kid, and he has worried about not being able to live up to his mother's legacy, although he has progressed far enough to be truly be considered as another member of the team by the Crystal Gems. He has also progressed in that he has gotten to the point where he can try to help the Gems to work through their issues, instead of being demanding of them to address his own. But this has lead to a different type of rift, as Steven has also developed a fear that the Crystal Gems blame him for his mother's absence, and because of that he has not brought up some of his worries with them. Steven also has his sorrows about never having known his mom and about technically being his own mother through owning her gemstone, and he has only confided some of those issues with human friends. He was also increasingly worn by the drama that the Gems formed between themselves and how he kept getting pulled into it, as he worried that it had something to do with him. That worry culminated into an outburst against Ruby and Sapphire in "Keystone Motel", and in their attempt to reassure Steven, the two tiny gems were able to work through their own problem.
Steven has also dealt with the opposite pull not too long ago, when he tried to distance himself from humanity in order to act only as a Gem, in order to 'protect' everyone he cares for. In this case, his human friends have acted as important tethers for him. Connie managed to pull him down to earth and help him realize that the would only be causing people more pain and worry by distancing himself, and then the local cool kids helped Steven to continue embracing the fact that he was still a kid despite everything; they even convinced the Crystal Gems to accept this.
In turn, Steven provides his own human touch in helping others to stay in touch with their hearts. He has helped to comfort Pearl through a number of insecure episodes, and he also stood up against Pearl's training of Connie, so that she could fight alongside of him instead of embracing the unhealthy practice of being prepared to die for a superior. Steven is still imperfect, and sometimes his attempts can be misguided. This was shown in his canon point episode, "Sadie's Song", where he teamed up with Sadie's mom to form a force that kept pushing Sadie to do something she no longer wanted to do. But once Steven finally realized what he had done, he owned his mistake and performed in Sadie's stead. Steven still has a long way to go in his journey, but he has managed to mature and grow a lot, as both a human and a Gem, while still holding onto those goofy qualities that make him Steven.
ABILITIES: As Steven Universe is part Gem, this causes him to have a number of remarkable abilities beyond those of normal humans. He is still young and developing his powers. Because of that, I will cover those that have been revealed so far and only develop his abilities further based on episodes-to-be with mod permission.
-Shield: This is Steven's 'main' ability and his weapon; he can produce from his gem a circular shield associated with Rose Quartz. It can be produced in varying sizes, but most often Steven will conjure it at a handheld size, and he has even shown some skill with throwing it as enemies. It can repel a variety of attacks, and striking it can cause vibrations that can dissipate certain types of projections, such as Lapis Lazuli's water clones and Pearl's holographic clones. It has taken Steven a long time, but he finally seems to be at the point of being able to produce the shield willingly as of recent episodes. However, it still can tire him out if done multiple times in a row, as in the recent episode "Friend Ship" he was exhausted from having summoned three shields in one day.
-Bubble Shield: This is the ability to produce a large protective bubble that is big enough to contain multiple people. It can act as a shield from a variety of threats, such as crumbling rubble and even a crashing spaceship, and it can also be used to walk around on the sea floor, although the amount of air contained within the bubble is still limited and the bubble is still capable of being popped despite being very durable. It is also possible to move around within the bubble by rolling it around. Steven has developed this ability to the point of being able to conjure and dissipate it willingly, but it sometimes can still activate subconsciously, such as in response to his worry over Connie (even though it was just a training exercise that Connie had volunteered for) in "Sworn to the Sword".
-Bubbling: Not quite the same as his ability to create a bubble, this ability involves encasing objects within a small bubble. This bubble can preserve inert gemstones in stasis and can also store inanimate objects, as Steven once bubbled a bag of chips. These bubbles can then be teleported back to the Crystal Gems' temple. Within the game, I intend to go with the assumption that Steven can still bubble objects, but that they will not be able to be teleported back home.
-Healing Spit: This is the version of Rose's healing tears that Steven inherited. Essentially, his saliva can heal a variety of wounds and fix other types of fractures. Steven's healing spit has been shown to heal a broken leg, restore someone's eyesight and repair a fractured gemstone. However, its vitality is linked to his confidence, and so it will not work when he does not feel confident in its power.
-Phytokinesis: Like his healing spit, this power is contained in Steven's saliva, and it involves growing plants as sentient beings. This power has only been used once and accidentally. In that instance, Steven took part in a contest of spitting out a large number of watermelon seeds, and each of them grew into living watermelon duplicates of Steven overnight, although they did not initially show signs of life. The watermelon Stevens were docile but became violent fighters whenever they felt that Steven was threatened, and only one of them was non-violent. Steven also could not control their behavior, and they did not listen to him after he lashed out at them for destroying Baby Melon.
-Shapeshifting: All Gems are capable of shapeshifting, and Steven is no exception. However, Steven has only actively attempted it once and is far from mastery. He tried to turn into a cat and instead transformed one of his fingertips into a cat. It got further out of control until almost his entire body was transformed into a mass of cat heads.
-Age shifting: This is likely related to his shapeshifting. And like it, Steven has only used it once and it ended disastrously, but this one was only used subconsciously. Essentially, when Steven's state of mind shifts, his age shifts to match it. When Steven started to be embarrassed by how childish he was, he started to age into a teenager and then into increasingly adult ages. It escalated until he became an old person on his death bed, and it was undone by the Crystal Gems managing to help him feel that it was alright to be a kid.
-Empathy/Dream Communication: These are abilities that have only appeared in one episode each and have only been displayed in relation to fellow Gems. I do not intend to use them on Gems without permission, or on non-Gem lifeforms without canon precedent. For the former case, Steven once detected the presence and emotional state of a gem monster. In the latter case, Steven once entered the mind of the gem fusion Malachite in his dreams and communicated within the personalities within.
-Fusion: Steven can perform 'fusion' with others to combine into one being. This usually involves a close connection between him and the other person and forming a harmony together through dance. Being half-gem and half-human, he is capable of fusing with fellow humans. A fusion usually has enhanced strength and abilities beyond that of the un-fused individuals. He has only fused with one human in canon, and it is very likely that he will not ICly try to fuse with others outside of extreme life-threatening situations, but should such a time arise, I will of course only plot such things with the other player's permission and permission from the mods if need be.
Additionally, in general, Steven's strength and stamina seem to be above that of a normal human, although not to a superhuman extent.
INVENTORY: Just his clothes and his ukulele.
